It will be a family affair at the Campus in 2021, with defender Jeremy Tshongo joining cousin Nelson at the Jacks of the NPLWA season.

The 24-year-old made his debut for the club, off the bench in the opening Night Series win against Perth Glory, but played in all the rest of the group stage games, and he is happy to be at the Campus.

“I have settled in well, the facilities are great and the coaches, staff and players have made me feel welcomed,” the defender said.

“I think the squad is looking good, and coming into pre-season the team set a high tone for the new boys. It has been clear that they want to defend the title this season in training and in the games, and I can’t wait to get started.”

The 24-year-old, who came through the Football West NTC and later went on to play in the American College system at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, said it will be good to play alongside his nephew Nelson for the first time in a team.

“Yes, I’m looking forward playing with Nelson this season,” he said. “We haven’t played on the same outdoor team before, so that will be great, and we have a good relationship on and off the pitch.”

Tshongo said with Kenny Lowe at the club, it was an easy decision to head to the Campus, as he had worked with the Head Coach before.

“The decision to join ECU Joondalup was a simple one, especially with Kenny as coach,” he explained.

“I have played under him before and I’m aware of his soccer intelligence, he knows how to get the best out of his players and the environment that he creates is a pleasant one.”

The defender was hoping to start his first season at the club by winning the Night Series, but after their loss to Perth, in last weeks semi-final, he is now focused on Sunday’s game against Armadale.

“It was very disappointing to lose last Sunday, as it would have been great to be playing in the final, but it wasn’t to be,” he said.

“But with the new league season starting next weekend, all our focus is now on the game against Armadale this Sunday, before the season opens against Gwelup Croatia next Sunday.”
