A week in football from the Campus

A week in football from the Campus

Posted on September 4, 2021 in 'News'

Football never stops at the Campus and with only few weeks to go, we look back at last week’s action and the upcoming fixtures.

First our NPLWA sides took on Bayswater City last Saturday in the final home game of the season at the Campus. Our first team produced a great performance to run out 4-2 winners, with Danny Hodgson, Daryl Nicol and Ellis Healing bagging a double, in only his second game after two-years out of the game with injury.

In the other games on the day Dimitri Phylactou’s 18s went down 1-3 to third placed Bayswater, with Hanani Ndebel scoring the Jacks’ goal, while Mark Scanlan’s 20s were narrowly beaten 0-1 by second placed Bayswater.

We are back in action on Saturday when we travel to Dalmatinac Park to take on Cockburn City – Kick off times, 18s at 11.00am, 20s at 1.00pm and First Team at 3.00pm.

It was a busy weekend for our Women’s State League Division One side, who played back-to-back games, playing Armadale on Saturday night under lights after the men’s NPL game and running out 3-1 winners.

A blatant handball by Armadale was ignored by the referee leading to them going 1 nil up. This spurred the team into action and by half time it was 2-1 to ECU thanks to two 15-year-olds getting on the score sheet, Nadia Godley and Maggy Pierce.

“This year I’ve had no fear in playing younger players and to be honest they have always delivered in their performances,” Coach Toby Wright explained.”

The performance slowed down in the second half until Molly Elphick continued her fine run of form to make it 3-1.

The next day they took on league leaders South West Phoenix, a tough ask under normal circumstances but even more so having played the night before, but they produced a spirited performance before going down 0-3. (Photos courtesy of South West Phoenix)

“The first half performance was the best of the year so far, against a really good and organised team we held them and created chances ourselves,” Wright said.

“It’s a shame that in the second half we ran out of legs due to the night before, it was 2-0 until the last kick of the game, where they grabbed a third despite Ash Riddle (GK) having a stand out performance.”

This week they make the trip to Len Packham Reserve to take on Perth AFC in Rd 21 – Kick off 1.00pm

Our Amateur women’s side weren’t in action last week, with Forrestfield United forfeiting the game, and this week they have the bye.

In other Womens program games –ECU U12s played their final home game of the season against Carramar. The girls made great use of the ball and space through the entire game for a total team performance.

Goal scorers this week Halle Snowden (2), Daisy Snowden, Harlee Whitehead, Indi Whitehead, and Savannah Jameson.

This week they travel to Charles Riley Reserve to take on North Beach Kick off 9.10am

The Masters North Division Three side remain fifth after beating Woodvale 5-2 at Chichester Park last weekend. Igor Arsovski scored another brace, with Dave Chapman and Richard Cresswell adding the other. This week they also have the bye.

Our NPLWA junior sides played their seventh Divisional games last week. The 13s travelled to Grindleford Reserve to take on Balcatta and came home with a 2-1 win with goals from Jack Lennon and Caolan Purcell.

The 14s travelled to Percy Doyle Reserve to take on Sorrento and ran out 2-0 winners, with Oliver Evans and Matthew Bowen on target.

The 15s also travelled to Grindleford Reserve to meet Balcatta and run out 2-0 winners, goal scorers are unavailable.

The 16s game were beaten 0-2 by Sorrento at Percy Doyle Reserve. It was a busy week for the under 16s, who also played a Rd 1 catch up game against Floreat Athena at E&D Litis Stadium on Friday evening and won 2-1, with Xavier Medica scoring a brace.
