ECU Joondalup continued their preparation for the new NPLWA season on July 4, with a 3-1 win against State League Division One side Forrestfield United at the ECU Football Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was 2-1 to the Jacks at half time, with Bayley Montgomery-Brown and Danny Hodgson scoring, while Forrestfield skipper Rhys Loxley scored for the visitors.

Head Coach Kenny Lowe made wholesale changes at the break, and a stunning strike from Dor Jok made it 3-1 to secure the win.

“I thought the first goal was handy, as it always good to know you can nick a goal from a set piece and the other two were both great finishes against the run of play,” Andy Higgins said.

“I thought we were confident enough to get the win, and we played some good stuff and with a few more tweaks and a bit more match fitness should be good to go for the start of the season.”

Jacks included new signing Riley Warland in the starting line-up, but were still without keeper Johnny Perkins, midfielder Harry Evans and striker Tommy Amphlett, all having slight niggles, and were not risked.

It was an even opening but it was the Jacks who hit the front on 37 minutes. A corner from Higgins picked out Montgomery-Brown at the back post and he made no mistake. But Forrestfield leveled three minutes later with Loxley finding the net.

But three minutes before half time the Jacks regained their lead. Some good lead up work by Sami Riak saw him square the ball to Hodgson on the edge of the box, and the striker finished with aplomb.

Lowe made a number of changes after the break and Forrestfield looked to get back on level terms, but they couldn’t breach a hard-working Jacks back four.

The result was then secured late in the game, when Jok eased past his marker and fired home superbly to seal a 3-1 win.

“Our first goal was a from a set-piece, which is pleasing, and Danny finished well for the second after our quick pressing and great counter attack,” Jok said.

“My goal felt like a dream to be quite honest, but I’m very happy for it and of course for the team on keeping the good friendly run going and keeping everyone ready and in good shape going into the first game of the season against Cockburn.”
