ECU Joondalup Soccer Club Women’s side have secured their historic first ever league win, after beating Mandurah City 4-0 at Securitas Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

First half goals from Jackie Nellany and Frankie Murray set Terry Maton’s side on their way, before second goals from Tinette Van Niekerk and another from Murray secured the three points.

Head Coach Maton was happy with the performance. “It’s great getting our first win under our belt with a good performance,” he explained. “We’re hoping we can continue with another great team performance and a win this week against Gwelup in our first home game of the season.”

Going into their third Football West State League Division One fixture of the season the Jacks were looking to continue their good form, which had seen them draw at Sorrento and having a narrow loss at Port Kennedy, and they were out of the blocks early on this one.

The Jacks opened the scoring after only 12 minutes with Jackie Nellany on target, heading home after a great cross from Amy Buchanan. They doubled their lead on the half hour with Frankie Murray scoring.  Van Niekerk picked up the ball on the edge of the box skipped past a player then slotted it through to Murray for an easy finish.

After half time the Jacks took complete control and added third on the hour through Van Niekerk finding the top corner after good work from Murray. The points were wrapped up late Murray added her second.

Murray picked the ball up in the middle of the park and played a neat one-two with Van Niekerk down the left, before cut in on her right foot and finishing clinically to seal a comprehensive win.

“It feels great to be back on the pitch and picking up some goals,” two goal hero Murray said. “Especially as the team have really started working well together, and I thought we moved the ball round well on Sunday and worked some great opportunities, I can’t wait to see where this season takes us.”

The ECU Joondalup Women’s Team are in State League Division One action again on Sunday when they host Gwelup Croatia at the ECU Football Stadium, 3.00pm kick off.
