Our ECU Joondalup Soccer Club Junior Team of the Week – NPLWA under 13’s

Head Coach: Tommy Jones

Team Manager: Claire Cottrell

It’s been an outstanding start from the 13’s and even with the Covid-19 break, the players have been up and about to start the new season with two wins to start things off. In round one they travelled to Macedonia Park and beat Stirling Lions convincingly 16-0 with Jack Connolly and Atli Oskarsson scoring five goals. Also scoring on the day was James Overy 2, Jacques Schreueder 2 and singles to Riley Ferguson and Liam Mayer. In week two they hosted Balcatta at the Campus, and again the young players put in a stellar performance to run out 8-0 winners. Once again, the goals were shared around with Liam Mayer scoring a brace, with singles to Will Carter, Jack Connelly, Atli Oskarsson, Hayden Carrico, Oliver Evans and James Overy.

Head Coach Tommy Jones has been delighted the way his side have performed and they are progressing well. “The boys are progressing really well and having had most of them from last year I can see the improvement in their game,” he said. “The players have worked hard at training and match days, so overall I’m fairly happy with them.”

Jones said the players work really well together, and the results have shown that. “We had a friendly before the coronavirus hit against Perth Glory, which will be our main competition this season and beat them 4-3, and after the virus had eased, we beat them 3-1, which was really pleasing,” he explained.

“To be honest the other friendly matches haven’t really been a test for us, but we have started the season off with two big wins, and to be fair those games don’t help no one. I think till we get through the next five weeks of our first phase of fixtures it will be more of the same with high score lines.

“I do believe though I’ve got a good team and good players that are getting better all the time. The new faces we brought into the team have settled in well and we’ve picked up some good players, so hopefully this season is a successful one.”
