ECU Joondalup came through a tricky cup tie at first division side Canning City with a 2-0 victory. Tommy Jones gave them the lead with 10 minutes remaining and New Zealand striker Tanner Selyer wrapped up the tie in injury time

Canning fielded several players with Premier League experience, including the Van Dongen brothers and Ante Kovacevic but ECU were able to dominate large parts of the game and it was down to man of the match, Canning goalkeeper Steve Grant to keep the score respectable.

Selyer had the first of several chances but was thwarted by an excellent save from Grant, and from the resultant corner, Tommy Jones  crossed and a handball was somehow missed by the referee.

ECU continued to dominate and Rob Draper had an excellent opportunity from five-yards but was unable to make the keeper make a save.

After the break, credit to Canning who contained ECU for large parts of the second half, but the deadlock was finally broken with 10 minutes to go. Good work by Matt Italiano and subsequent cross was missed by the Canning defence and Jones was on hand to fire home from close-range

Selyer completed a good afternoon for ECU when he pounced on a loose ball and drew the advancing goalkeeper before sliding into the net

ECU U18 won 8-1 and Charlie Comyn-Platt got his first win of the season with a 3-1 victory to ensure ECU went into the next round with all three teams intact.
