Declan Hughes will return to ECU Joondalup in 2021 after agreeing a one-year contract at the Campus.

The midfielder spent last season at Bayswater City, after returning from a spell at Scottish Premier League side Ross County. Most recently the 20-year-old signed a short-term contract with Perth Glory, for their AFC Champions League campaign, but after talking to Head Coach Kenny Lowe he is happy to be at the Jacks.

“I’m delighted to be signing back at ECU, it’s a great club with a good coach who are heading in the right direction,” he said. “I think the team looks very strong and I hope that we can try and push for some silverware at the end of the season like they did last year. I will try to perform by best each week, hopefully bring some goals and assists but mainly get results for this club.”

Hughes spent eight years at the ECU Academy throughout his youth development, but also had two stints at Bayswater, and short spell at Perth Glory. But his move to Ross County was great for his football, but unfortunate his contract was cancelled due to covid-19. “I was over in Scotland with Ross County for two years, and I enjoyed every moment of it, and learned a great deal, but had to return due to COVID in March last year,” he explained.

“I enjoyed my time at Bayswater last season, it’s a club full of great people and it was tough to leave them for this season. I was delighted to join Glory for the ACL and really enjoyed making my professional debut in such a big tournament, but now all my thoughts are focused on ECU Joondalup and helping the club to more success.” Welcome back to the Campus Declan.
