A week in football from the Campus

Posted on August 27, 2021 in 'News'

We head into another massive weekend of football at the ECU Campus with only a few weeks remaining of the season.

First, we look back at last week and our NPLWA sides took on Floreat Athena last Saturday at E&D Litis Stadium. Our first team were beaten 0-2, after defender Ryan Lowry was sent off before the break, and we also lost keeper Johnny Perkins with injury.

There was better news for the other sides on the day. First Dimitri Phylactou’s 18s won 1-0, with with Hanani Ndebele scoring the winner on the half hour.

Then Mark Scanlan’s 20s ran out convincing 4-1 winners. Ellis Healing’s first start of the season after a long layoff saw him bag a brace, with Josh Kingston and Kaelan Majeks adding the others.

The first team were also in midweek actions, fighting out a 2-2 draw with Inglewood United at Dorrien Gardens, to keep our top four hopes alive. Goals on the night were scored by Danny Hodgson and Declan Hughes, while young keeper Joe Pollard made his first start of the season and put in a man of the match performance.

We are back in action on Saturday when we host Bayswater City at the ECU Football Stadium. – Kick off times, 18s at 11.00am, 20s at 1.00pm and First Team at 3.00pm.

Last week our Women’s State League Division One side had the bye last week, and they will look to extend their unbeaten run when they take on league leaders South West Phoenix at the Campus – Kick off 3.00pm.

Our Amateur women’s side were beaten 1-3 by Fremantle City (Maroon), with Phoenix Brownlie scoring and this week they travel to Hartfield Park to take on Forrestfield United – Kick off 12.30pm.

In other Womens program games – ECU U12s girls took on Whitford City at Warrandyte Reserve. “Over the course of the season the girls have worked hard and have really grown into a team, with this weekend’s fixture really showing how far they have come,” Coach Gareth James said.

“From the start of the game the girls moved the ball around quickly, created space for each other, and were very direct down the channels.”

Goal scorers this week Erin James (3), Daisy Snowden (3), Savannah Jameson, Halle Snowden.

This week they host Carramar Shamrock Rovers at the Campus in their final home game of the season – Kick off 1.00pm.

The Masters North Division Three side remain fifth after beating Balga 4-2 at the Campus last weekend

Our NPLWA junior sides played their sixth Divisional games last week. The 13s hosted Subiaco at the Campus and drew 1-1, with Caolan Purcel scoring.

The 14s also took on Subiaco at home and ran out 4-1 winners, with Jack Connolly scoring a hat-trick, with Oliver Evans scoring the other.

It was a busy weekend for the under 13s, 14s and 16s, who were all in State League Cup Finals at Macedonia Park.

First up was Terry Bushell’s 13s who took on Perth SC, and goals from Samuel Halfacree, Senna Leno and Alfie Hewings, secured the win

Then it was Danny O’Shea’s 14’s who also took on Perth SC. They found themselves behind at half time, but Oliver Evans levelled on the hour, but Perth found the winner in a tight contest.

Finally, Toby Wright’s 16s took on Bayswater City in a real thriller, but it was Bayswater who won it 3-2.
