NPLWA Finals Series Semi-Final v Perth SC Preview

Posted on October 6, 2020 in 'News'

After last weekend’s title win and celebrations, the Jacks are in NPLWA Finals Series Semi-final action on Wednesday evening when we take on Perth SC at Percy Doyle Reserve. (8.00pm)

Kenny Lowe’s side finished top of the table and claimed their first title since 1999, after a 4-0 win against Sorrento, while Wednesday we play last season’s Champions Perth SC, who drew 2-2 against Perth Glory on Saturday, but that was enough to finish top of the bottom six group and earn their spot in the end of season finals.

Lowe said Saturday was a great day, but they are now focused on adding the Finals Series Cup. “Saturday was a great day for our football club, and winning the 2020 NPLWA title was a great reward for my players, coaches and support staff, who have worked incredibly hard, and we have been rewarded with the clubs first title since 1999,” he explained.

“Wednesday is a new competition and we take on Perth, who have been, and continue to be a successful club, and it’s what we aspire to in years to come. It doesn’t come easy, the hard work and dedication that is needed sets the good clubs apart from the others.

“It will be a tough game, like the one we played against them in the league, when we won narrowly 2-1. But we want to win, to do that we will need to be at our best and I’m confident we will.”

Riley Warland said the players enjoyed their success on Saturday, but now need to be focused on Wednesday’s game. “Yes, it was definitely a great moment for the club on the weekend, everyone at the club deserves it, everyone works hard on and off the pitch,” the former Fulham Academy defender said.

“It’s going to be another difficult game, Perth are a great club, and it’s quite a competitive game every time we play them. But at the moment I believe that we are playing some of the best football in the league, and all the boys are most definitely up there, to add some more success.”

Winger Ethan Brooks said to win the title was a huge for the club, but knows the season isn’t finished yet. “I couldn’t be prouder of the boys for the effort they’ve put in over the season, every week a never say die attitude and it’s really paid off with winning the league,” he said.

“It’s an incredible achievement for a lot of the boys as well as the club, couldn’t be happier to have won it for everyone involved in the club and hope we can win more. We know Wednesday’s opponents, Perth, have shown they’re definitely not a side to be taken lightly despite finishing bottom six.

“I think this will definitely be one of our toughest challenges, but am confident that if we stay focused and play the way we’ve shown we are capable of playing we’ll push on for the Grand Final on Sunday and look to add another piece of silverware.”

Rob Mahon’s under 20’s, are also in action against Perth SC on Wednesday, when they meet in the 20’s Final Series Semi-Final, also at Percy Doyle Reserve. (6.00pm) The coach said his young side have done really well to reach the Final Series.

“To make the Top Four Finals is a great achievement, but we’re not in it to make up the numbers, we’re looking to win it, and that starts tonight,” Mahon said. “This Perth side are unbeaten all season which is a fantastic achievement, so we know we will have to perform to the best of our ability to be in with a chance of winning, but I’m sure our lads will be up for the challenge.”
