Jacks Womens and Masters teams win

It was a good weekend for our Womens and Masters teams, both winning their home games.

First at 1.00pm Rick Rancatore’s undermanned side beat local rivals Joondalup City 2-1.  City arrived at the campus in fourth spot on the Belt-Up Masters Division One, but Luke Croxall gave the Jacks the lead on the half hour, and he doubled our advantage on the hour. City pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining but the Jacks hung on for the win.

Then at 3.00pm our Women’s side beat Mandurah City 4-0 to consolidate fifth Spot on the Women’s Division One table. The Jacks raced to a three-goal lead at the break with Amy Buchanan, Frankie Murray and skipper Danielle Maton scoring. After the break Tinette Van Niekerk added the Jacks fourth to seal a comprehensive win for Terry Maton’s side.

“First half I thought we moved the ball quicker, and our decision making was a lot sharper,” the coach said. “But second half became very scrappy and we abandoned our principles of playing the ball on the ground, but a good result – Well done ladies.”

The side were back in action on Wednesday night when they hosted Armadale at the Campus. The Reds arrived on high after beating UWA, but the Jacks won a hard-fought contest 1-0 with Caitlin Quinn scoring the only goal.

“Really proud of the team, it’s not easy backing up for midweek game, but they were fantastic,” Team manager Vanessa O’Brien said. “It was a great game to watch the team did us proud the defence had to be at their best to keep out a well organised Armadale team. Thee win moves us up to fourth on the table, a great achievement in our first season, but we’ve got two games to go and we’re eying two more wins.”
