Jacks meet Cockburn in Night Series on Sunday

ECU Joondalup are back in NPLWA Night Series action this weekend when we take on Cockburn City at Dalmatinac Park on Sunday afternoon. (5.00pm)

The Jacks were edged out by NPL Champions Perth SC last week, and a good first half performance saw goals from youngster Ben Hinshelwood and Tommy Amphlett, but Perth hit back in the second half to take the points.

Young defender Nick Koefler said it was a good work out and they are working hard to implement the new tactics of new head coach Kenny Lowe. “We’ve had a few sessions under Kenny already and it seems like we are improving and understanding the way he wants to play a lot more,” he explained.

“The game against Perth had a lot of positives and I thought we played very well in the first half but match fitness let us down but that will come with more games under our belt. We know Cockburn away is always a hard game, and they’re a good side but we’re looking to come out strong and improve on last week’s performance and hopefully get the win.”

Cockburn, who were well beaten last week by Bayswater City last week, will want to bounce back and Andy Higgins is expecting a tough encounter on their home patch. “I think we have learnt a bit from last week and we have a game and another week of training under our belt so we will defiantly be better prepared,” he said.

“We know Cockburn are always a well organised and technically good sign so we won’t pay attention to previous scores and just try and concentrate on ourselves.

“There’s a massive change at the club over the last month and it’s got a few new faces around which has got everyone on a bit of a buzz.  Yes, last week pretty well we all thought as that was our first game of our pre-season where has other clubs have had a few under the belt already. So naturally our legs went in the second half and we couldn’t keep our lead, but we hope to change that on Sunday.”
