ECU Joondalup have finished fourth in the NPL Night Series after a 1-0 loss against Bayswater City in Saturday afternoon’s final Pool One game at Frank Drago Reserve.

The only goal of the game came from Riley Warland, whose long-range effort gave Johnny Perkins no chance. (Photo by Fotoenzo)

The Jacks went into the game without the injured Cian Hirrell, Tommy Amphlett, Ross Millard and Josh Whitmore and were on the back foot early, and the home side hit the front on 25 minutes.

The Jacks turned the ball over in the middle of the pitch and Warland strode forward and found the top corner of the net from long-range.

Despite the best efforts of Ryan Lowry, Perkins and Danny Hodgson the Jacks couldn’t find a foot hold back in the game and Bayswater saw the game out to take the points.

Skipper Johnny Perkins said they now move on to Saturday, when they play Division One side Stirling Lions at the ECU Football Stadium.

“We were disappointed to lose the game, and for large periods of the game we were comfortable defensively in dealing with their attacking threat,” skipper Johnny Perkins said.

“We probably didn’t play as well with the ball as we would have liked, but overall there were positives to take away and areas that we can continue to focus on, starting Saturday against the Lions, and improve on with the league start approaching fast.”

The Jacks are back in action on Saturday afternoon when all three senior teams take on Stirling Lions at the ECU Football Stadium. 18’s – 11am, 20’s – 1pm, First Team – 3pm.
