ECU Joondalup Women’s team head to Port Kennedy in Round Two

The ECU Joondalup Soccer Club Womens home fixture against Port Kennedy SC on Sunday has been switched to Koorana Reserve (1.00pm) due to the ECU Football Stadium being doubled booked.

It’s been a great day for Womens football with the Australia / New Zealand’s joint bid selected as the hosts of the FIFA Womens World Cup in 2023. It will showcase the game to the world and Jacks skipper Danielle Maton said it’s great news.

“I think it’s awesome that FIFA have given the opportunity to Australia and New Zealand to host the World Cup,” the skipper said.

“Womens football is already on the rise and more competitive than ever but this will attract more players to the game and will be great for the future Australian Womens team.  Australia already have a fantastic Womens team and I believe have a strong chance of winning it, I’m looking forward to watching it.”

The Womens team fought out a 2-2 draw at Sorrento last week and they take on a Port Kennedy side who won well against Gwelup Croatia last week so it’s going to be a tough task for the side but Team Manager Vanessa O’Brien said the team have trained well this week and are looking forward to the challenge.

“The girls/team worked hard at training this week, and Terry and I were pleased with their attitude,” she said. “It was good to get our first game out of the way and see all the players put in a great team performance.

“With a lot of the teams in our league we are going into the unknown on Sunday at Port Kennedy, but all we can do is to put in 100% in each and every game and the get results we need to keep us in contention at the end of the season.
