ECU Joondalup SC took on Stirling Lions in pre-season games at the ECU Football Stadium and all three teams ran out winners.

Mark Scanlan’s under 18’s kicked things off with a 3-1 win, with goals from Robbie Sallis, Sam Murphy and Regie Saungweme. “I was Pleased with the performance from the boys, and the way they adjusted to a new system today,” Scanlan said. “It was also good to blood more from our Under 16’s squad.”

The under 20’s ran out comprehensive 11-0 winners with striker Dor Jok bagging five goals, while Bayley Brown-Montgomery added two, with others to Paddy Doyle, Jack Doyle, Laat Sofali, Manus Mathiang.  “It was a strong team today, a couple of first team players dropping down for some minutes,” Higgins said.

“Obviously by the scoresheet Dor was on fire today and could see he was enjoying it. To be honest though we started off extremely poorly. Forcing passes, letting them play and not moving the ball around like we wanted to. The game after 25/30minutes settled and with the Doyle brothers on the ball we slowly started to dictate what happened.

“The pairing of Koefler and Conor at the back allowed us to control the game from deep areas and start our ball movement, and Joey as always was fantastic in goal Obviously the games second half intensity wasn’t there as much and we were able to control the game, but all in all a game I think the lads needed and I wish Stirling all the best for the season.”

Kenny Lowe’s first team finished things off with a 2-1 win. Tommy Amphlett scored a screamer, with Andy Higgins adding the other in good hit out for the team with the NPL season only two weeks away.

“Tommy’s goal was a typical finish from him 30-yard screamer, I think I’ve seen him do that at least 7 or 8 times “The second was a good deliver by Nick Koefler that took a helping deflection and I managed to make some good connection to slot it in,” Higgins explained. “Although it was only 2-1, I still feel we dominated the game after a bit of a slow start, so now we just have to keep progressing.”
