Here is the latest news from the ECU Academy.

Firstly, congratulations to Ronald Rixer and the NPL under 15’s who have moved through to the Semi-Final of Smarter than Smoking Junior Cup after a thrilling penalty shoot-out win against Inglewood United at Walter Road Reserve on Saturday morning. It was 0-0 at the end of normal time, and in a dramatic shoot-out they ran out 10-9 winners.

Rixer was pleased with the performance. “The boys dominated the game from start to finish, but trying to break down a very defensive Inglewood side is never an easy task, the boys did well to create good chances throughout the game, unfortunately unable to convert any in regular time,” he explained.

“An incident of a disallowed ECU goal moments before the final whistle left the boys in a mental battle before penalties. The light hearted team talk to try and defuse the situation may have overcompensated for the problem with some boys clearly too comfortable for the cup shootout.

“I think at least 5 of our 10 penalties were blasted into the top corner, and may just be one of the best penalty shootout performances I’ve ever witnessed from a team. The boys won the penalty shootout 10-9 in the end, not the shortest one I’ve ever seen, but delighted to move into Semi-Final.” In the semi-Final they will play local rivals Sorrento at Percy Doyle Reserve on Saturday July 27 – Kick off 9.00am

On Saturday evening it was a proud moment for some of the ECU academy players who did a lap around Optus Stadium before the game between Perth Glory v Manchester United game – Photo: ECU Technical Director of Football Mark Scanlan with Onree De Silva, Tyson Poule, William Brennan, Taylor-Phoenix Wright and Latrell De Silva.
