After another successful season for the ECU academy teams, this weekend they kick off the WA NPL Division fixtures with all games at the ECU Football Stadium on Sunday.

It’s been a hectic time for the ECU Joondalup SC Technical Director Football Mark Scanlan, as well as overseeing the academy program, he has also stepped in to coach the under 14’s after the departure of the coach mid-season, but he said it’s been a great season to-date from all the NPL sides.

“We progress to the junior NPL division with some impressive results in the first phase. There were 206 goals scored in 48 games by the academy boys,” he explained.

“We’ve had players from all teams involved with state and representative football and a number of players have made senior debuts as we transition our players from Sundays to Saturday’s.

“The players development has been a priority with many promoted to the above age groups as we try to get them ready for first team football.”

So on to Sunday and the first games of the second phase of the leagues and Nik Silsby’s under 13’s, who topped the white group, host Bayswater City at the ECU Football Stadium in Division one, who finished second in the blue group.

“The boys have enjoyed their football and you can tell on the pitch,” Silsby said. “It’s a great learning curve for them at this age but they are getting better each week and we’re looking forward to the Divisional leagues and pit our wits against the best teams from the other groups.”

The under 14’s finished third in the white group and have been placed in Division Two, and they open up with a home game against Perth Glory, who finished third in the black group.

The under 15’s also topped the white group and will play Stirling Lions in Division One, who they pipped by three points in the same group.

The under 16’s finished second in the white group, and on Sunday they will play Bayswater City who topped the blue group.
