Lowry heads back to the Campus

After three seasons away from ECU Joondalup Soccer Club, Ryan Lowry has agreed to return to the Campus for season 2020.

The 26-year-old headed over the ditch after signing for Hyundai A-League side Wellington Phoenix, but after parting ways with them earlier in 2019 the former skipper said a return to the Jacks was always on the cards, even though he had offers from other clubs.

“After three seasons and looking back, I really enjoyed the experience in Wellington,” he explained. “Obviously there were highs and lows but ultimately I really enjoyed my time there, the highlight for me was my debut, and last year making the finals which was an amazing experience.”

“But after relocating to Perth with my partner and settling, it was an easy decision to head back to the campus. I love this club and the people here who I’ve worked with for years. Yes, there was interest elsewhere but I just couldn’t picture myself playing for anyone other than ECU and under Dale in the NPL.”

Jacks Head Coach Dale McCulloch said the signing of Lowry, or Paddy to his team mates is a huge boost for the club. “Really pleased to get Paddy back, a great player and a great person as well, and to have him in and around the football club is great news for us,” he explained.

“He’s had a good spell in the A-League and performed well, when given the chance at Wellington, and we know his experience and talent will add to our squad for next season.” Photo left – Lowry in action for Wellington v Adelaide

It’s a completely different squad from the last time Lowry was at the Campus, but he watched a number of games last season and also trained with the squad after returning from Wellington, and he is looking forward to getting back into it, next season.

“Yes, it’s is a different squad but most of the boys are familiar to me as I’ve been coming down through the years in my off season break and I’m confident we will have success with the squad Dale is assembling, and hopefully I can contribute to that,” he said.

“Last season is in the past and now we just focus on this upcoming season. I watched enough at the back end of last year to know that we will be competitive, and hopefully I can help others around me, just like I had when I first started playing for the club.”

Welcome back to the club Paddy!!
