Jacks striker Joe Knowles, who returning to the club after stints at Perth Glory and overseas, capped off a stand out season by being voted ECU Joondalup Soccer Club Player of the Year at the club’s presentation night last Friday at the ECU club rooms.

He won a close count ahead of keeper and club skipper Johnny Perkins, midfielder, Josh Whitmore, defender Shane Cassidy, and the striker also won the top goalscorer award.

Knowles was shocked to win the award but thanked the club for giving him the opportunity to play this season. “Yes, it was a little surprising considering only playing half the season but very grateful for the award,” he explained. “I worked hard to get back fit and sharp and to help the boys out for the uphill battle which was the second half of the season.”

Keeper Johnny Perkins has been rewarded for another excellent season between the sticks by picking up the Players Player of the Year. “It’s an honour to have been chosen by my peers for this award, especially when I look around at the talent at the club,” he said. “Obviously, I would trade individual awards for team success but it’s a real privilege nonetheless.”

In the under 20’s James Bruce won the Player of the Year, and he was happy to win it, but disappointed they missed out on the top four finals. “It’s a great achievement winning the under 20s Player of the Year so hopefully it’s just a start of many great things to come,” he said.

“I’d like to than the boys for the year and making it an enjoyable season even though we were all disappointed missing out on top four. It’s another year that I’ve been coached by Jonathan Higgins and I’m always learning new things on and off the pitch so a big thank you to him.”

Luke Rhodes broke into the first team late in the season and he was voted as the Player’s Player of the Year. “Yes, it’s been a great year of football with this bunch of lads, one I’ve thoroughly enjoyed,” he said. “Although we didn’t win the trophies we set out to at the beginning of the year, it’s always nice to get some recognition from your mates after a good season.” The top goalscorer award was won by Dor Jok and Ben Hinshelwood

In the under 18’ Harry Blunt won the Players Player of the Year and the top goalscorer awards, while Luke Davies won the Coaches’ Player of the Year award.
