Jacks swoop for Healing

ECU Joondalup SC have added to their squad for 2020 by signing the State League Division One top goalscorer Ellis Healing from Gwelup Croatia.

The English midfielder headed down under with Armadale in 2016, before a season at Inglewood United. Last season he helped Gwelup win the Division One title and bagged 23 goals and was joint winner of their clubs ‘Player of the Year’. The 25-year-old said he is delighted to join the Jacks and is looking forward to the season ahead. “I had a good season last year at Gwelup, I scored a lot of goals, which I hope I can repeat this year at ECU,” he said. The only regret I have is I had a lot of good mates in the team there, so it was a shame to leave, but I wish them all the best next season.”

Healing was on a scholarship with English side Tranmere Rovers as a youngster and was playing for Cefn Druids FC in the Welsh Premier League before heading to WA. He also had stints with BK Sports in Sweden and Hyde FC in England.

The midfielder hopes to help the Jacks rise up the table next season, and he has enjoyed his pre-season at the campus and getting to know the lads. “I’m very happy to have signed for ECU, they’ve always been a good team when I played against them and I don’t think I’ve ever beaten them, so if you can’t beat them, join them,” Healing joked.

“I’ve been at the club all pre-season and I’m enjoying it and have fitted in really well, all the lads, and Coaches Dale, Toughy ad Ross have made me feel welcome.”

Healing can’t wait for the season to begin, and he is determined to get the Jacks back up the table after a 11th placed finish in 2019. “The team did struggle last year, but I don’t think they deserved it, they had a lot of injuries and only lost seven games all season,” he explained.

“Only first and second lost less than them, if we can get goals into the team, we will turn them draws into wins and we be able to finish much higher this year.”

Senior Head Coach Dale McCulloch is delighted to have Ellis on board. “Ellis has looked sharp while he has been training with us and we’re delighted he has signed for next season,” he explained.

“He has played at this level before and we know what he is capable of, and he will give our squad a big boost. He’s scored goals whichever club he has been at and his set-pieces and delivery into the box is a weapon we know he has.”
