Final home game of the season for The Jacks

Final home game of the season for The Jacks

After last week big win at Floreat Athena, the Jacks will be looking for a repeat when they host Balcatta in penultimate NPL WA game at the ECU Football Stadium on Saturday.

Joe Knowles brace gave the Jacks the win at Floreat and it also maintained their unbeaten run in the second half of the season.

But they are still not safe, and need a win on Saturday to make sure, and assistant coach Ross Edwards said it’s been the same over the past two months

“Saturday is a big game, but to be honest it has felt like that for every game over the last 10-12 weeks,” he explained.

“The good news is we are unbeaten in the last nine games and we look to continue that run and build on the win from last week.”

Edwards said the lads performed well last week, against a team who could have still won the league if Perth hadn’t won at Armadale.

“The win last week was deserved, and yes we got a bit of luck at the end but when we reviewed the video, we had more than enough chances to close the game off,” he said.

“At the end of the day they were still in the mix to win the league, which makes the win even more impressive, and we will look to take this into the game this weekend against a very strong Balcatta team who have a good defensive record.

“It’s our final home game of the season the boys are determined to put in a solid performance, and it’s got all the ingredients of a good game. We need points to confirm our place in the NPL and they need points to push into the top four, so were else would you want to be at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.”

Midfielder Andy Higgins echoed Edwards’ comments, and said they have been unlucky in recent games but they are ready for the challenge on Saturday to move clear of the relegation scrap.

“Last week was a great win for the boys and it was well deserved and I think this weekend is a must win again, and a game I think we can win,” he said.

“To be honest of the last three months I’ve felt we have been good enough to win a lot more of the draws we had, but we need to stay focused and coming off last week’s win I feel like there’s a hunger for that same feeling this week, and to give us that safety.”

Young defender Nic Koefler was outstanding last week in the win against Floreat and he said the side won their battles across the park and they need a similar performance on Saturday.

“It’s going to be another hard game this weekend against Balcatta, as they’ve had a great season, but we are on a good run as well especially after last week’s win,” he said.

“We have to come out firing like we have been doing and try and cut out some mistakes that lead to pressure at the back, but with a few players coming back from injury/suspensions this week the sides looking very strong and hopefully we can grab another three points and end our home games with a win.”
