It’s an historic day for the ECU Joondalup Soccer Club master’s team on Sunday, as they play their first Belt Up Masters North Division One game of the season on Sunday when they entertain Wembley Downs at the ECU Football Stadium on Sunday – kick-off 3.00pm.

They lost their opening competitive game in the Masters Cup first round against Premier side Hillarys 3-1, but coach Riccardo Rancatore said the lads are looking forward to the new season.

“The quality of the opposition is a big unknown but the boys are still expecting a tough test,” he said.

“Having fought valiantly last week in the Cup against the Premier Division favourites Hillary’s FC, the confidence and belief in the squad has increased dramatically since it was established just a few weeks ago.

The coach was in a jovial mood when we spoke to him in the lead up to the game to the game, and he said he’s hoping for a big crowd to come along to support the team on Sunday.

“We will definitely be more attack minded this week after last week’s 1-8-1 formation, but injuries have really hit us hard this season already, and it’s a bloody shame the young good-looking striker who played sweeper last week is out injured, he will definitely be one to watch this season,” Rancatore joked.

“I have to say the support we are getting from the ever-growing ladies fan club is giving the lads a massive boost, some of the guys are even now applying more hair wax before the game.

“I know if we don’t win the game on Sunday, we will look bloody lovely and that’s definitely worth a point or two when we get home.”

Good luck to Masters team, and anybody interested in watching the next enthralling encounter kick off is at 3pm and the bar will be open.
