ECU Masters go down to Olympic Kingsway

The ECU masters put in another good performance at the weekend but went down 5-2 against a strong Olympic Kingsway side.

Kingsway got off to a flying start racing into a 3-0 lead after 15 minutes. Had it not been for a World Class acrobatic goal line clearance from Luke Croxall it could have easily been 4-0.

ECU changed formation and slowly clawed their way back into the game, with Rick Rancatore going close after his deflected shot struck the foot of the post. Minutes later Diego Garcia got the boys back into the game with an excellent finish making it 3-1 at the break.

Chances were limited early in the 2nd half, but Diego Garcia, showed excellent persistence in a very tight position to beat three men and power home superbly into the top right corner to make it 3-2.

Fitness then took its toll as the ECU midfield started to get overrun and Kingsway finished strongly closing the game out 5-2.
Max Reinhardt had a late header dubiously ruled out for offside but Kingsway deservedly took the three points in the end.

The team will continue to battle on and key players Mike Buckland, Mike King, Ollie Hilton are likely to remain sidelined this weekend with other longer term casualties Mary Krysiak (ankle) and Steve Tarman (hamstring).

On a positive note the energetic Paul Talbot will return to the strike force along with record signing Andrew Brown (50 cases of VB) which will a big boost. The side are back in action this weekend when they host Balga in week 10 at the ECU Football Stadium – kick off 3.00pm
