After a stellar first season at the Campus, Jacks midfield Josh Whitmore has re-signed for 2019.

The 26-year-old struggled with injury late in the season, but his energy and determination shone through, and he said all the club made it easy to settle in well. “I really enjoyed myself at ECU last season, and the lads and coaches are great and made it easy to settle in,” he said.

“On a personal level it was frustrating to pick up and injury in the second half of the season, but we finished the season well and only just missed out on the top four. It was an easy decision to stay at the club, and all the lads know we have a squad good enough to be challenging for the league and that’s something I want to be involved with.”

Jacks assistant coach David Tough said Whitmore was a huge signing last season, and to have him again for 2019 is a great for the club. “We’re all delighted Josh has committed to ECU 2019, and he is a key member of the squad, and is well-liked and respected by everyone at the club,” he explained. “His desire and work rate on the pitch sets the tone for the team, which is vital in the middle of the park.”

Whitmore will have a couple of familiar faces with him at the club next season, with former Joondalup United players Arran Maplestone and Richard Howles joining the club this week, and he said its great news to have the pair at the club. “Both Az and Richie are great signings and will be important players for us next season,” he said. “At JUFC a couple of years ago they were two of the best, and will fit in well for us, it’s great to be back playing with them and I know they will both have a great season.”
