Under 20’s into Top Four Cup Grand Final

ECU Joondalup under 20’s has produced a great performance to qualify for McInerney Ford Top Four Cup Grand Final, after a 4-0 win against Perth SC at Dorrien Gardens.

The Jacks had won the league title at the same venue two weeks ago and they were on the back foot early and keeper Jack Nunn produced a couple of outstanding saves to keep the hosts at bay.  But it was the Jacks who took the lead, when Liam Fyfe hung a great ball to the back post where Ben Hinshelwood looped his header over the Perth ‘keeper Malek Kuc.

The Jacks went on with it after the break and added a second, they won possession from a high press and Harry Edwards played in Liam Murray who raced into the box and cut it back to Edwards to make it 2-0. It was 3-0 when Fyfe converted a 30-yard free kick, before they wrapped up the tie with a fourth. Again, the high press had its reward, this time Liam Murray is put through on goal and slots the ball past the keeper at the near post.

Coach Mark Scanlan said it was great display from his side. “I honestly couldn’t be prouder of the performance. Jack Nunn made two unbelievable saves at 0-0 which kept us in the game in the first half, but we dealt with the early pressure from Perth and got ourselves to 1-0 at half time,” he said. “The second half was our best performance of the year. I thought we were very professional and ruthless. We took our chances and didn’t give them a sniff.”

Skipper Logan McIssac said all their hard week paid off. “It was a really good day for us obviously and it’s always nice to play some of your best football in a final,” he said. “We had a really good week of training and the boys knew the job was only half done after winning the league. We’ll work hard again this week and look forward to playing whoever makes it to the final.”
