ECU Joondalup continued their build up for the new NPL season when a mixed (First Team and 20’s) side beat Sunday Amateur Premier League side Kingsley FC 4-1 at the ECU Football Stadium on Thursday evening.

Under 20’s Coach Mark Scanlan said it was good hit out. “We had a number of first team boys get minutes in the legs in the first half, and my boys also put in a good performance,” he said.

“Kingsley are a quality amateur side so they were good opposition for us. Cian Hirrell staked a claim to play further forward after scoring inside the first five minutes. Liam Fyfe made it 2-0 soon after, his movement and runs in behind caused the Kingsley defence all sorts of problems.

“Ciarán Salinger made it 3-0 with a good header from a corner just before half time. Changes were made at half time giving some of the younger lads an opportunity to impress, Ethan Brooks was handed his ECU debut and he didn’t disappoint.

“Ethan made it 4-0 after a twisting run that sent the keeper and defender the wrong way. We almost held on for a clean sheet, but Kingsley got a consultation, lobbing the keeper in the final minute to make it 4-1.

“They were some promising performances from a number of the young players, who showed they were more than capable of staking a claim for a first team spot this upcoming season.”

All three senior teams are in friendly action this weekend with the First Team taking on Bayswater City at the ECU Joondalup Stadium (3pm). While the 18’s play Bayswater at Frank Drago Reserve at 9am and the Under 20’s at 11am.
