ECU Joondalup have added some experience to their coaching stocks by bringing Willie McNally back to the club as under 18’s coach and the clubs goalkeeper coach for 2019.

McNally, who has coached at Sorrento for a number of seasons, will team up with Derek Johnstone, who will be his assistant with the 18’s, and the former WA State Squad keeper will be at the front of coaching the clubs talented keepers.

“We’re delight to have brought Willy back home and he will be a great asset for our club,” ECU Head of Football Operations Steve Amphlett said.

“He will have a massive part to play with our keepers  and will give us some experience with our 18’s and will form a great partnership with Derek, who did a fantastic job last season.”

McNally is in the WA Football ‘Hall of Fame’ and was still playing the game as 48-year-old in 2003.” Born in Northern Ireland, he arrived in WA some 34 years ago. He enjoyed a long playing career with various local Premier League clubs and played seven seasons with Adelaide City in the National Soccer League and was part of their championship winning  side in 1986.

He also captained the State team in the Marah Halim Cup, and made nineteen appearances in WA colours, and at the age of 37, his reflexes were as sharp as ever when he was a key figure in WA’s famous 3-2 victory over German side Werder Bremen in 1992.

As well as the Campus, McNally was assistant coach at A-League side Perth Glory under David Mitchell in 2014 and most recently coached at Sorrento.

Welcome back to the Campus Willie!!!!
