ECU Joondalup SC have signed midfielder Josh Whitmore from neighbours Joondalup United for season 2018.

The 25-Year-old played 24 games for United last season as they finished tenth in their first season in the PS4NPLWA, but the English-born midfielder is looking to a new challenge at the Campus. (Photo – Whitmore is welcomed to the club by President Steve Wheatley)

“I’m really looking forward to joining ECU for the 2018 season. The move is a great opportunity for me to develop as a player, challenge for the league and join a fantastic club, and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into the months ahead,” he explained. “After conversations with Dale McCulloch and David Tough they made their intentions for the season clear and I’m excited to be a part of the squad going forward.”

Jacks head Coach McCulloch said Whitmore is a great signing. “We’re delighted to have secured Josh’s service for next season, he’s a good player and a good lad as well, and played well against us last season for United,” he said. “After speaking to him we know he would fit into our plans for next season. We are building nicely for 2018, but we’re making sure the players we bring in add to the spirit we’re trying to implement at the campus, and Josh fits the bill nicely.”

English-born Whitmore has played the last four years at Joondalup United, and said it was a great club be at. “I’ve had the best four years at JUFC and couldn’t have imagined what we achieved. Moving through the leagues was a big accomplishment for the club and something I’m proud to have been a part of,” he explained. “The lads and management team there are a credit to the club and I can’t thank them enough for making my time there so enjoyable.”

The central midfielder is looking forward to the new season with a new spring in his step and will be doing all he can to bring success to the campus. “I think the 2018 season is going to be an exciting one for ECU and I’m happy to be part of it,” he said. “The team we are putting forward is strong with some great new recruits and experienced players putting us in a great position to challenge for the league and I’ll be doing all can to bring success here.”
