Ross Millard may be new to the Jacks senior side, but the youngster knows all about the Northern Derby and he looking forward to Saturday’s game against Sorrento at the ECU Football Stadium – in Week six of the PS4 NPLWA.

The talented defender said last weeks last minute defeat at Floreat was really disappointing, and that result is driving them to three points on Saturday. “It was very disappointing to come away with a 1-0 loss, but it was a very scrappy game from both sides and neither side really got going, and to be fair it had 0-0 written all over it but a defensive lapse at the end let us down,” he explained.

“We showed what we could do the week before against Inglewood in which we showed good character and attacking power so it was disappointing not to follow it up against floreat. We’ve changed things up during the week so hopefully that freshens us up a bit to put us in good stead for the big game on Saturday against Sorrento.”

The former Perth Glory Youth defender has settled in well at the campus and his elevation into the teams’ leadership group shows what the coaching staff think of the 20-year-old. “The coaches and players have welcomed me to the club really well and made the transition easy,” Millard said.

“To be given such responsibility early doors was something I didn’t expect but it’s good to know the club has got faith in me. The last couple of weeks things have started to click a bit which is a good sign so we just need to keep on getting games together which will only help us achieve to where we want to get to.”

Millard said the squad is focused on Saturday’s big game and getting the job done against their local rivals. “It’s a massive game on Saturday there’s no doubt about that. We’ve already experienced a derby this season so we can learn from things we didn’t do too well in the first game against Joondalup United,” he said.

“There’s a bit more history in this game however so from the start to the end both teams will be doing everything they can to get a win over our rivals. They’ve started the season well but I’ll back our team to do the job on Saturday and kick really kick start our season.”
