ECU Joondalup player/coach Steven McGarry will be rubbing shoulders with football royalty next month when the Manchester United Legends play an historic charity match at nib Stadium.

Fans will have the chance to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on Saturday, 25 March when former Manchester United players – including Paul Scholes, Dwight Yorke, Denis Irwin and Teddy Sheringham – face off against the PFA Aussie Legends, an all-star side of former Australian players including McGarry.

The former St Mirren and Perth Glory midfielder is looking forward to the game, and the match will also raise money for DT38 Foundation and the Manchester United Foundation. McGarry is an ambassador for the DT38 Foundation and he said it’s a great chance for the WA public to watch some great players and help the foundation. “First of all I think a big congratulations to Natasha Evans, Tracy Lee Tombides and everyone associated with the DT38 foundation for making this event happen, there has been a lot of work put in over the course of 18 months to make this game come to fruition,” he said.

“It’s not every day you get footballing legends from one of the biggest club teams in the world if not the biggest coming to your doorstep, it’s definitely exciting times for football fans in WA. The game will be a fantastic event but it’s also a great opportunity for the DT38 foundation to spread our mission of raising awareness and to change the stigma associated not only with testicular cancer but all men’s health issues.

“Also our vision to inform now and future generations with the necessary knowledge about testicular cancer and about our goals of educating through teaching programs especially the children’s book “DIDGE” that’s currently being run throughout schools across Australia and the UK. On a personal note I’m delighted not only to be involved with DT38 with the game but also receiving the call from PFA Player Relations Manager Simon Colisomo to play in the PFA Aussie Legends team along with and against so many fantastic footballers from Australia and Worldwide, I’m sure it will be a night to remember.”

It’s the first time the Manchester United Legends have come to Western Australia and the team will be managed by former United and England captain, Bryan Robson. It’s also the first time Professional Footballers Australia has assembled a legends team, which will be coached by former Socceroos coach Frank Farina. This exclusive Western Australian event gets football lovers up close and personal with some of the legends of the game at a ground which put spectators right next to the action. Not only will these two teams be on a mission to play highly entertaining and thrilling football for their West Australian fans. Get in quick – this event will sell fast.
