It’s been a busy two weeks for Jacks midfielder and assistant coach Steven McGarry, who headed back to Scotland to finish off his UEFA A coaching license.

He said it was busy, but it was great chance to catch up with some old team mates. “It was a real challenging and enjoyable nine days at Heriot Watt University, as I completed my UEFA A-License,” he explained.

“It was great to meet the likes of former Everton striker James McFadden and current Scotland international and Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adams, along with several of my ex-team mates, and it was also great to catch up with the family.”

The 37-year-old, who played over 340 games for Scottish clubs St Mirren, Ross County and Motherwell, said he also spread the word about his academy around a number of clubs. “I was able to tie up some meetings with some Scottish Premiership and Championship clubs regarding my SMFC Academy,” he explained.

“To create opportunities for local WA players, so it’s exciting times ahead.”

He also watched some football over there, and he said the international between Scotland and England had a great finish. “I managed to get a couple of tickets for the Scotland and England European Championship qualifier at Hampden Park,” he said

“To be fair it wasn’t much of a spectacle, but the last ten minutes was something else. I’ve not seen celebrations after Leigh Griffiths’ second goal in a long time – pity Harry Kane Levelled in stoppage time.”

McGarry goes into the squad for the Jacks PS4NPLWA clash against Inglewood United, and he said it will be a tight game, but he’s looking forward to get back on the park. “It’s going to be a tough game against a team who are scoring goals at will, and not conceding to many either,” he said.

“We have a good record against Inglewood lately though, so it’s got the makings of a great game, and I can’t wait to get back into it.”
