Joondalup derby to kick start the season

The PS4NPLWA fixtures have been confirmed and the opening game of the season will be a local derby when the Jacks travel to Percy Doyle Reserve to take on newly-promoted Joondalup United on Sunday February 19 (7pm)

With the expansion of the NPL the season is starting early, and Football West have decided to put the games back to evening kick offs in the early round to protect the players from the extreme warm weather, with February normally being the hottest month of the year.

The first home of the season see’s Armadale visit the ECU Football Stadium on Saturday February 25th at 3pm, and we then have two more home games with Stirling Lions and Inglewood United heading north to take on the Jacks in round 3 and 4.

Coach Dale McCulloch said it’s a perfect start to the season and he said it will be great for the local area. “What a great first up game for us, a local derby against Joondalup United,” he said. “It will be the talk of the town and a game we’re all looking forward too.”

McCulloch said they will be looking to go one step further in 2017. “Our second half of the season was outstanding and we went close to our goal, that was winning the top four finals, but we fell just short,” he explained. “We’ve worked extremely hard in the pre-season and are looking to go further this season, but we will take it one game at a time and that’s starts against Joondalup United in three weeks’ time.”

“Nick, Rudy and the other coaches at United have done a wonderful job to get their club to the NPL and they will be wanting to start with the bang, so it’s a massive challenge for us, but one we are relishing – bring it on.”
