ECU Joondalup ended their 2017 PS4 NPLWA season on a disappointing note, being beaten 6-1 by the current Champions Perth Soccer Club at Dorrien Gardens.

A First half brace from Niccolo Sabatini and one from Gustavo Catarcione put Perth on their way, before Gordon Smith pulled one back for the Jacks just after half time. But Tom King and Andreas Theodosiades regained control for Perth, before Catarcione added his second late.

It was the Jacks who opened the brighter Sam Pollard’s in-swinging corner was punched away from under his bar by Perth keeper Francis Soale, before Gordon Smith shot on the run flashing over the top. But Perth then starting to get on top, and Sabatini fired them in front on 14 minutes, the winger was closed down and he fired home from the edge of the box.

Perth looked hungry for more and on the half hour they doubled their lead, Nicholas Ambrogio’s cross found the unmarked Catarcione, who volleyed home. Jacks keeper Fraser Greenwood was a busy man, he saved well to deny Catarcione one-on-one, before denying the Brazilian again with a super save three minutes before the break. But on the stroke of half time Perth added a third, Catarcione was brought down by Jack Jones and Sabatini sent Greenwood the wrong way to send the home side in with a 3-0 lead.

The Jacks were back in the game three minutes into the second half when Gordon Smith was brought down by Perth keeper Francis Soale and referee Steven Gregory pointed to the spot, and Smith picked himself up to score. But Perth weren’t to be outdone and they regained their three goal lead seven minutes later, with King finding the corner of the net, this despite Greenwood getting a hand to it.

It was soon 5-1, King burst down the left and found Theodosiades, who made no mistake, before Catarcione raced clear to add a sixth on 70 minutes. It could have been more if it wasn’t for Greenwood, the ECU custodian produced great saves to deny Catarcione and Alex Silla, but at the whistle it was Perth moving on to the finals in good form, and the Jacks season comes to a disappointing end. .
