With the new PS4NPLWA season just around the corner the ECU Joondalup under 20’s stepped up their pre-season preparation with a game against Perth SC on Saturday.

With a number of the side in the first team squad for the Night Series, a mixed side of under 16’s, 18’s and 20’s battled it out against a strong Perth side and eventually went down 3-2. Coach Mark Scanlan said he was really pleased with the hit out.

“With Ben Johns, Logan McIssac, Sam pollard, James Owen and Ethan Kerridge in the Night Series squad, we used the opportunity to combine the three squads, against a full strength Perth side,” he explained.

“It was a perfect opportunity for some of the clubs younger players to step up and test themselves against strong opposition. We had under 18’s players Ewen Fawcett, Danny O’Shea and Tom Hough all started the game, Callum Speed, Blake Burgess and Zach Welch in the second half, while Dor Jok from the 16’s also made an appearance off the bench.

Scanlan was pleased with the performance of striker Keylun Pollard, who made his first team debut last season. “Keylun was a real handful and scored both goals,” he said. “Overall it was a good exercise for us as coaches to see hoe the young players would respond to playing above their age group, and the attitude and work rate of the players involved was excellent.”
