ECU Joondalup under 20’s have beaten Subiaco 2-0 in their round 19 catch-up game at the ECU football Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Jacks lead at the break after James Owen was eventually credited with the goal after Subiaco failed to clear a corner, the ball bounced around the box, hitting the post and being cleared off the line before going in.

The points were wrapped up in the second half when Corey Hyde was played in on the left after just coming off the bench, and he raced into the penalty area and slotted the ball in the bottom corner with his left foot.

“We started slowly after the delay to kick off, but I thought we eventually go ourselves into a rhythm. Liam Fyfe made some great runs in behind their back four and Ben Johns caused them problems in a more advanced role than usual,” Coach Mark Scanlan said.

“I think 1-0 was fair at half time, but in the second half Subiaco enjoyed some good spells of possession, they put us under a lot of pressure but our back three were able to deal with it.

“Kieron Craig made an instant impact when he came off the bench for us, his pace is frightening when he gets a run at defenders and it was good to see Corey Hyde score the second only minutes after coming on.”
