ECU Joondalup under 18’s and 20’s are also in action today when they take on State League Division One side Joondalup City in a local derby.

The under 18’s kick off at 1pm and Coach Dean Pickering said he was pleased with his sides win in the last round. “It was a pleasing result last week in our first cup round, we knew Melville were not going to be an easy task and they proved that throughout the game especially in the first half,” he said. “Being a stalemate in the first half it was pleasing to come out in the second half and kill the game off quickly allowing me to rest a few players after a big weekend.”

Pickering knows a cup derby will be a tight encounter, but he’s looking forward to it. “Today’s opponents will be another difficult challenge in these early cup rounds. Not only is it a cup game but it’s a local derby, these are the games you love to be a part of,” he said. “It will be a massive game and one we will be up and ready for and looking to get a result to send us into the later stages of the cup.”

Mark Scanlan’s under 20’s are in State League Reserves Cup action, when they meet Joondalup City at 3.15pm. Unfortunately Scanlan missed the win in the last round due to a night in hospital but he said all reports said they had to work hard for the win.  “We saw off Melville City 2-1 in the first round of the cup on Easter Monday, I’d love to praise the boys for their performance last week after going down to 10 men and seeing off a much older side, but I didn’t see the match myself,” he explained.

“Unfortunately I missed the match due to a poisonous spider bite of all things, instead of super powers I ended up at the hospital. “We know today’s game will be another tough encounter, but it is an opportunity for us to really test ourselves against a local rival, form goes out the window on Derby day so we have to be at our best if we want to get a result.”
