ECU Joondalup continue their preparation to the new PS4NPLWA season with a pre-season friendly against Football West First Division side Forrestfield United at Hartfield Park on Saturday morning.

The game was quickly arranged after the Jacks loss in the Quarter-Final of the Night Series and Coach Dale McCulloch said it will be a good workout against a good Forrestfield side.

“Obviously we would have liked to be playing Sorrento in the Night Series Semi-Final, but once we were eliminated it was very important to get competitive games ahead of the new season and we believe the game against Forrestfield will benefit us greatly,” he said.

“Rod Banjac has a good young side, and finished third on the table and they finished the season well last year, so it will be a good test for us. We need to game time in the players legs, especially players who are returning from injury, so we will treat this game like we do league games, and we’ve prepared well at training this week.”

There was good news on the injury front this week, and McCulloch said it’s important to have a strong squad. “We had Danny Milne, Jon Higgins and Shane Pickering back in full training this week and Andy Higgin returns next week and Rikki Smith is due back also, so it gives us a huge boost ahead of the season,” he explained.

The more game time the new look squad can play will only help them gel, and new signing Nathan Diaz said they are looking forward to Saturday’s game and they have put last week’s loss behind them.  “Last week’s game was a high tempo, and it was a really good game end to end football, I feel a draw would have reflected the game a little better but they took their chances, but we have moved on already,” he said.

“The teams getting better week by week and after a good strong test against Bayswater I’m looking forward to seeing now where the team is at. Forrestfield are no easy beats should be a good hard entertaining game Saturday and hopefully we can come away with the win.”

The game kicks off at 11am, the same time as the reserves, with the under 18’s kicking off at 9am
