Jacks’ PS4NPLWA Junior – Week one review

The 2017 PS4NPLWA junior season kicked off on Sunday and ECU Joondalup entertained Perth Glory at the ECU Football Stadium and there was some good football on show. Below is a review of the weekend’s games – (Photo by Lesley Edwards)

Under 12’s – Drew 2-2 – The ECU 12’s put in a fantastic performance to drew 2-2 with Perth Glory – Gary Miller and Sam Hamilton were on the score sheet in Gordon Smith’s first game as Coach – “Really happy the way the boys performed – they have worked hard in training and went out and put in a good display at both ends of the pitch,” Smith said.

Under 13’s – Lost 1-6 – A hard fought game but the ECU youngsters were beaten. “There were a few positives yesterday, good performances from Shade Stewart, Callum Piper and goalscorer Kane McEwan,” Coach Nik Silsby said. “But all the players worked really hard on the day, and Callum and Kane, along with Olly Makin played in the second half for the under 14’s.”

Under 14’s – Won 2-0 – The Jacks were slow to get into their rhythm in the first half, but second half the lads came out and dictated most of the game,” Coach Jesse Hesford said. “We kept possession really well and created chances, and it was a solid performance to start the season but still a lot of work to do.” The goalscorers for the under 14’s were Samuel Murphy and Kane McKwan.

Under 15’s – Drew 0-0 – The boys came out of the traps firing and played a well-executed first 10 minutes. They slowed soon after and although creating a number of chances – but hats off to the Glory goalkeeper who made some fine saves,” Coach Jesse Hesford said. “The opening period of the second half the Glory pressed us back, but credit to the boys who played some entertaining football for the last 15 minutes with only a goal missing. A good footballing performance – in spells – and a clean sheet too – We walk away content with the result – Well done boys!!.”

Under 16’s – Won 3-2 – “A great performance from the lads and it’s always good to start the season with a win,” assistant coach Ross Kelly said. “We look forward to next week’s game against Subiaco and continue our season.” – The scorers for the 16’s was Daniel MacKenzie, Dor Jok and Taylor Thain.

Next week the boys take on Subiaco on Sunday at the ECU Football Stadium.
