The Jacks conceded a late goal from former striker Joe Knowles to draw 1-1 against Perth Glory at the ECU Football Stadium on a wet Saturday afternoon.

The powerful finish from the former ECU academy player cancelled out an early Shane Pickering goal, but the point continued the Jacks four game unbeaten run and moved Glory out of the drop zone, and now survival is in their own hands.

There were plenty of Jacks’ old boys in the Glory line-up with Daniel Stynes, Ollie Annis, Brandon Wilson, Bayley Montgomery-Brown, Joe Knowles and Michael McDougall all stating for John Gibson’s side

It was the Jacks who made the perfect start, taking the lead after only two minutes. Pollard’s free kick was finished low past Nick Feely by Pickering. The lively Pollard went close again on the quarter hour. Daryl Nicol raced down the left and cut the ball back to the former Glory youngster, but his shot flashed wide of the target.

Glory settled and went close themselves on the half hour, McDougall’s shot was saved low by Fraser Greenwood. Moments later Stynes’ free kick was well saved by the ECU custodian, and the follow up shot from Wilson was also saved low by Greenwood.

It was more of the same after the break, with both sides having chances. Glory substitute Yacoub Mustafa was denied by Greenwood early, before Steven McGarry’s header from Ross Millard’s cross was deflected just wide.

But the jacks went close to doubling their lead on 66 minutes. Gordon Smith and Nicol combined on the half way line, Nicol getting a lucky deflection which took him clear, and his lob over the on-coming Nick Feely drifted agonizingly wide of the post.

Feely then saved well to thwart Steven McGarry, and the Scottish midfielder headed inches over moments later, as the Jacks looked to put the game to bed. With news filtering through from the other game involving teams in the relegation zone, Glory continued to push for the equaliser and it eventually came on 83 minutes.

Knowles won possession in the middle of the park, and was given far too much room, he drove forward and finished superbly low past greenwood. It looked like the visitors had gained a vital point, but they almost lost it in stoppage time. A long throw by Jack Jones was flicked on by McGarry, Gordon Smith brought the ball down with his chest, but his volley flashed inches over the top.
