ECU Joondalup are in Westfield FFA cup fifth round action today (Tuesday) when they entertain State League Division One leaders Dianella White Eagles at the ECU Football Stadium at 5.30pm.

The Eagles beat the Jacks in last season’s competition and Coach Dale McCulloch said they need to be on their game from the first whistle. “Today’s opponents are flying high in the First Division and are coming off a big win at title favourites South West Phoenix, so we need to be switched on from the first whistle,” he said. “We paid the price last season for taking our foot of the pedal and being beaten by them, so we know we have to be on our game.”

McCulloch said Saturday’s win at Balcatta was good and showed how dangerous they can be. “We go into today’s game after a big win at Balcatta on the weekend,” he said. “We totally dominated the game and raced to a five goal lead and were outstanding going forward and we created a number of good opportunities. But we got sloppy late in the game and conceded two goals, but the performance was excellent, and we have had the players in for recovery ahead of today’s game.”

The Eagles won at the same venue last season and Robbie Dunn said it will be a good challenge for his side. “Drawing ECU is probably as tough as it gets. They are on fire right now and are the form team in the NPL. They are very strong all over the park and are scoring goals for fun against some very good NPL opponents,” he said. “Our guys will go out and give it their best for the club their team mates and themselves and I have no doubt that they will make life very tough for ECU. This game will show our players where they stand against a very good NPL side and all I want the players to do is enjoy themselves and see what happens.”
