Jacks edged out at Inglewood

A goal from Inglewood United youngster Chok Dau has given them a hard fought 2-1 win against the Jacks in week 17 of the PS4 National Premier League WA, at the Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Alex Salmon added to his 18 goals for the season, to open the scoring early, before Daryl Nicol levelled for the Jacks before half time. Both sides had chances in end to end football after the break, but Dau’s deflected shot just before the hour won it for Andy Keogh’s side, the win sending them to the top of the table.

Only five points separated the teams going into the game and there were chances at both ends early. Youngster Hamza Hina’s shot saved by Fraser Greenwood, before Nicol’s effort was saved low by Alex Dunn. But it was the home side who opened the scoring on 20 minutes. Ashley Rosindale raced into the penalty area and crossed from the bye line to Salmon, who ghosted in to score.

It was almost two, when the lively Salmon fed Hina, but his shot flashed over the top. But five minutes before the break it was the Jacks who levelled. Great work on the left by Ross Millard, saw him race past his marker, his deep cross to the back post picked out Nicol, and he finished low past Dunn.

It was more of the same after the break, and Rosindale shot inches wide, before Nicol’s curling shot did likewise at the other end. Dunn then produced a fingertip save to turn Nicol’s shot on the run around the post, before Inglewood skipper David Cyrus got back with a last ditch tackle to deny Nicol again moments later.

But Inglewood regained the lead on 57 minutes. Salmon was sent clear down the left channel, his shot on the run was superbly saved by Greenwood, the rebound falling to Rosindale, who laid the ball off to Dau on the right. The youngsters shot from the edge of the penalty area took a defection off Millard and nestled in the back off the net for his fourth goal of the season.

The Jacks went close to levelling on 73 minutes, Nicol freeing Steven McGarry, his shot beat Dunn but the post came to the Inglewood custodian’s rescue. It looked like Inglewood had a third nine minutes from time, Dau’s cross finding Salmon at the back post, who turned it home. But his celebrations were cut short with the assistants’ flag up for offside, it was a tight decision.

McCulloch went for broke and changing his formation with big defender Graham Doran becoming a target man, and it almost paid dividends late. A long ball from Greenwood was flicked on by Doran, but Kevin Moon’s shot failed to find the target, and it was Inglewood celebration at the final whistle.
