It is full steam ahead for ECU Joondalup’s Under 18’s and 20’s as they prepare for the upcoming PS4NPLWA season. Both teams have new coaches at the helm, with Dean Pickering coaching the 18’s and Mark Scanlan the 20’s.

Both have been really pleased the way their squads have worked in the pre-season, and Pickering said there are good signs from the new look squad.

“We haven’t played any friendlies yet, but a few players have been training with the first team and a few have played in there training matches,” he said. “Pre-season is going strong, the players have adapted to my training and the team is gelling well together.

“They have been working hard and showing great commitment and attitude towards the training. We as a team are excited to get the season underway now and are really looking forward to putting the training into the real thing on game day!

Scanlan’s under 20’s also haven’t played any games, but he said they had a hit out with Shamrock last week in the first team training match. “We played the second half last week, overall we won 8-0 with James Owen and Paddy Doyle both scoring a double each,” he said.

“Paddy can be unplayable when he’s in the mood and James Owen has been very impressive so far in preseason, he’s come on leaps and bounds in the last 12 months.”

But he believes the signs are positive going forward. “Overall I’ve been very happy with how pre-season has gone so far. The players have worked extremely hard and have bought into the way we want to do things at ECU.

“The young lads who have come to the club have really pushed the established players and are knocking on the first team door. The competition for places has given Dale a bit of a headache. We’ve arranged a few matches in the coming weeks and we’re all looking forward to the new league season ahead.”
