Tough three weeks behind us say’s Toughie

ECU Joondalup assistant coach David Tough said it had been a hard three weeks for the club, after three successive defeats, including a hammering at home to Balcatta last week.

But he said they had gone back to basics at training, and he said the players had worked extremely hard to turn their form around, and the win against Perth Glory has hopefully put that bad run of form behind them. “All credit to the lads, they have been put through the ringer over the past month, but the win today was vital,” he said.

“We pride ourselves on commitment and effort, but for some reason that was missing last week, and I’m really pleased the way they bounced back today.”

It was a different shape heading in the game, and Tough said the players nailed the game plan and deserved the three points. “I thought we were brilliant today, after such a bad run of games, we’ve worked hard defensively and changed the shape a little bit, and I thought it was a hard working performance,” he explained.

“We’ve given away cheap goals recently, but we were solid back there today, and to be fair we attacked as a team and defended as a team today, so for the coaching staff that’s a huge positive.

“We did sit a little too deep later in the game and Dale and I were screaming at the players to push up. But the effort and work rate and desire was there this week, and that had been missing recently, but I though we deserved all three points today, and we move forward and plan for a big game against Bayswater City in our next league game.”
