The 17-year-old was joint winner of the award with Bayswater City striker Luka Ninkovic, and he said it was a great reward for his and the teams effort during the season. “I’m very happy to see the hard work over the year pay off,” he said. “Credit to my team mates for feeding me all year, and I was just happy to finish them off.”

The under 20’s missed out on a top five spot on goal difference, but Owen said it was a good season from the young side. “The season had many highs and lows but the team worked hard to improve and the second half of the season showed how good we can be,” he explained. “We were unlucky to not make the finals on the last day, but that’s football and it will only make us hungrier next season.”

The striker’s highlight came in round 15 when he bagged a double hat-trick against Perth SC at Dorrien Gardens, a game the youngster said gave him great confidence for the rest of the season. “That game was probably the turning point of my season,” he said. “It gave me a lot of confidence and belief to carry on the form for the rest of the season.”

Owen’s form was also spotted by Senior Coach Dale McCulloch and he was on the bench for the first team for a number of games during the season, and McCulloch said he is one of the players in the club who can push for a spot in the First Team squad. “James worked extremely hard on his game last season, and having him involved at training with the first team has helped improve his game,” he said. “His performance against Perth when he bagged six goals was a great effort and showed what a talented player he is, but he knows he has to work on a few things but he is great lad and we are expecting a good season from him next year.”
