McCulloch wary of Armadale in Night Series

Coach Dale McCulloch said last week’s loss to Perth SC, was good to get out of the way.

After an excellent performance against Balcatta the 4-2 loss brought his side back down to earth, but he said there are still positives to come out of the match. “Yes I suppose it’s good to get it out of the way, but it’s better to have that sort of performance in the pre-season competition,” he said. “It’s still early in pre-season, but we’ve worked on a few things at training this week that let us down against Perth, and we’ll see on Sunday if the players have taken it on board.”

McCulloch said you can’t plan or train for individual errors, but he said he’s spoken to the players and has plenty of faith in their skills that they can bounce back. “Like I said it’s still early in the season and we’re not willing to hang players for making mistakes in pre-season that’s part of football, as long as they learn from them,” he explained. ‘We’ve spoken to the individuals but it’s now in the past and we move forward. We have a number of players pushing for a starting role in the side and it’s up to the individual players to show me, and the other coaches, they want that starting spot, week in and week out, and that’s by going out and putting in consistent performances.”

The Jacks meet Armadale in week 3 of the QBE Night Series and McCulloch said they have looked good in their games, despite losing both of them. “I’ve watched both their games and I’ve been really impressed with them, especially in the first half of games, and I thought they were really unlucky in both games,” he said. “They (Armadale) are no pushovers and never have been, but they always work hard for each other and Pricey (Paul Price) has moulding a good side, so we will need to be on our toes Sunday.”

In team news ahead of the game, Jack Oldham will miss the game, the club resting the teenager as he gets back into football after missing most of last season with injury. Tommy Amphlett is back training after missing pre-season with injury, but he will not be available for Sunday’s game.
