Keenan and Amphlett out for month

ECU Joondalup striker Tommy Amphlett and keeper David Keenan will be sidelined for a month, after damaging ankle ligaments and knee ligaments respectively in the 2-1 defeat against Perth SC on Saturday.

Keenan (Right is treated by ECU Physio Regan Arrigoni) twisted his knee really early in the game and McCulloch said the big shot-stopper had been really good in recent game. “David took over the reins as the clubs number one this season and was performing well, which is a shame; we wish him all the best on his recovery.”

Amphlett sustained his injury just before half time after being crudely brought down in the penalty area, and the referee and his assistants completely missed it and Amphlett limped off and was replaced a half time.

ECU head coach Dale McCulloch said it was a defiant penalty, and to lose Amphlett is a real blow.  “Tommy has been really good for us this season and we will miss him, but we have the players in our squad who can fill his role, so we move on,” he said.

“But decisions like that can change games, if we had scored the penalty we would have been two up, and they would have been down to ten men, and the result could have been different. They say that those sorts of decisions will even itself out during the season, but it doesn’t bring the points back.”
