ECU Joondalup under 18’s and under 20’s face a tough test this weekend when they both take on the top of the table Perth Glory at the Ashfield Sports Club.

Howard Tweats under 20’s were unlucky last week but a stoppage time goal gave joint top of the table Balcatta the points. The youngsters have won three games this season and will be confident they can get a result to keep the pressure on the top five. It’s another tough test this weekend travelling to Ashfield to play Glory who have made an impressive start in the league. They will present a different style of play to deal with than recent opposition’s and will of course be very organised and resolute,” Tweats said.

“Coming of the Balcatta game where I thought we did more than enough to win the game, the goals against coming from a lack of responsibility taking and individual errors at the death, this we must address and eradicate from our game to uphold all the hard work the team puts in to get ahead in games.

“The challenging aspect of the weekend’s game is having only seven regular squad members available due to injuries and absences, so we call upon the quality of ECU youth structure as a number of our U18’s players will come into the squad, so it will be good to see their approach and application.”

Paul Welch’s under 18’s won last week against Balcatta and the coach said he’s looking for more of the same against Glory. “The lads deserved the win last week and give them confidence going into Saturday’s game against Glory, who are a good run of form,” he said.

“We’ve been working closely with the under 16’s and we’ve brought a number of players into our program and they are improving each week.  We’ had a lot of niggling injuries in the squad recently and we’ll have a young side out there on Saturday, as we’ve lost a couple to the 20’s, but I’m confident we will give a good showing.”
