ECU Joondalup hit the road on Saturday afternoon, which is St George’s Day, when they take on Floreat Athena at the E&D Litis Stadium.

The first team game is a twilight game and will kick off at 5pm, with the under 20’s at 3pm and the under 18’s at 3pm. ECU Coach Dale McCulloch said it will be a tough game but the lads are looking forward to the challenge. “We’re looking forward to the game, they are a very good side and it will be a good test for us,” he said. “We’ve been ok in the last couple of weeks, but we haven’t had much luck in those games, we hope we get a bit of luck our way this week.”

The Jacks haven’t had the rub of the green in recent weeks, but the coach said it has to change. “I bloody hope so,” he joked. “At the moment it feels like it’s never going to equal it’s self out. We can have a look at these things and feel a little hard done by, but that doesn’t get you the points back, so we have to keep working hard and make sure we get put some points on the board.“

McCulloch said the midfield pairing of Steven Walmsley and Henry Durr have been superb and said the pair are their engine room in the middle of the park. “Henry and Steven have been outstanding for us in the middle of the park, they go out there and get the job done without any carrying on,” he said. “They are long stayers as well, they haven’t picked up any injuries (Touchwood), they just keep doing what they’ve been doing and that 100% effort , work really hard and both are very officiant on the ball.”

In team news Joseph Jones misses the game due to suspension, while Tommy Amphlett will face a late fitness test on his injured ankle. Lewis Italiano will keep in between the sticks to make his debut for the club, while youngster Stefan Vranesvic has been added to the squad after impressing in the under 20’s this season.
