Jacks return home to take on Balcatta

After two weeks on the road, ECU Joondalup heads home this week when they host Balcatta at the ECU Football Stadium, in week seven of the PS4 NPLWA on Saturday. (3.00pm)

Last week’s fade out against Floreat Athena was a disappointment for all involved with the club, but assistant Coach David Tough believes the players are ready to hit back on Saturday. “We’ve been bitterly disappointed with the last couple of week’s performances, but all the coaching staff knows we have a talented squad of players and we believe we will improve,” he explained.

“In both matches we were competitive but never took our chances at key moments of the game, if we had we could have taken six points. We dominated the first half at Floreat, but after the break we lost our shape and we were punished.”

Tough said Balcatta are hitting their straps after an indifferent start and he said it will be a good contest. “They (Balcatta) have now got a bit of momentum, winning three on the bounce, and Marc Anthony has them playing an attacking brand of football and going to be a real tough game,” he said.

“We’ve worked hard this week and we’ll be well prepared and ready to make emends for the last couple of weeks, especially our second half showing last week.”

Head Coach Dale McCulloch echoed Tough’s comments and he said they had a long talk prior to Tuesday’s training, and it’s now in the past. “We had a long chat at training about the Floreat game and we’ve moved on,” he said.

“I thought Tuesday’s session was one of the best we’ve had while I’ve been here, and the players are switched on for Saturday’s game. I know if we play our best football for 90 minutes we can beat any team in the league, it’s time for us to start doing it.

In team news Welsh defender Joseph Jones returns from suspension, while Josh Tucker should be available after injury, but Tommy Amphlett’s ankle is still giving the midfielder problems and he won’t be risked.
