ECU Joondalup take on near neighbours Sorrento in the local Derby in Week 12 of the PS4NPLWA season. (3pm)

Fresh of an excellent performance against Inglewood United Coach Dale McCulloch said they will be looking for more of the same against the Gulls. “Saturday was probably our best performance of the season, we defended well and took our chances,” he said. “So with all the new faces coming into the squad there will be a few selection headaches at the selection table.”

McCulloch has played in many games against the Gulls, and knows form goes at the window in these sort of games, but he hopes the new faces can gel early. “It’s a massive for the club, like any local derbies are, but with us having so many new players in the side we hope the side can gel quickly, but I’ve every confidence in the player group,” he said. “But if we go in and play to our structures and work for each other I’m pretty confident we can get a result. We were pretty active in the transfer window, although we had to, after losing a couple of players, but I’m really pleased with the in’s and they will really strengthen our squad.”

ECU skipper Ryan Lowry said last week’s win was well deserved and he said it was a solid performance. “It was just what we needed after a few poor performances,” he said. “We played well on the day, but I’ve said all season we can beat any team in the league is we play like we know we can, so everyone was delighted to get back in the winner’s circle and we hope it can continue on Saturday.”

Saturday’s game is vital for the home side to push up the table, and Lowry said they need to get some consistency in their game. “Anytime we play we want to win, but especially as it’s a local derby, we will be hoping to get one over them,” he said. “If we can gather a few wins together top four is still attainable, but we need to be more consistency, starting on Saturday against our neighbours.”

In team news John Higgins should be available this week, while new signings Rikki Smith, Jayden Drummond and Kevin Moon will also come into the squad. While former Scunthorpe United midfielder Matt Sparrow is in line for a starting role for the Gulls if his international clearance is received in time.
