ECU Joondalup head to Macedonia Park on Saturday to take on Stirling Lions in Week Five of the PS4 National Premier League WA. (3.00pm)

The Jacks lost last week against Perth SC but Coach Dale McCulloch said they performed well but came away empty handed. “We dominated for large periods of the game, and played some good football, but errors cost us, it just wasn’t our day,” he said.

“We hit the woodwork twice and their keeper had a blinder, but at the end of the day we came away with nothing and we will look to rebound at Stirling on Saturday.”

The Coach will have to make a number of changes due to injury, but he said they have a strong squad and they have the players to fill the void. “We’ve lost Tommy Amphlett with ankle ligament damage and keeper David Keenan with a knee injury, which is unfortunate because both had been performing well for us,” McCulloch said.

“We will bring in Scott Wallis in between the sticks, who I thought played well after replaced David last week and we have a number of players who we are looking at to come in for Tommy.”

The Lions sit level on the table with the Jacks, but are coming off a 7-2 win at Cockburn City last week and McCulloch said they have some good players. “Stirling have recruited well this season, and will be a tough side on Saturday, but I’m more concerned about what we do,” he explained.

“We’re starting to gel well and will be looking to continue our improvement and if we do what we know we can do we’ll be hard to beat. We’ve worked hard on the track this week and hope we can come home with the points.”

Lions’ keeper John Perkins said Joondalup had started the season well and will be another tough challenge. “ECU have added some good players to their side and we saw that when we beat them in the night series,” he said.

“We’re aiming to build on our performance from last week and get some momentum going. We know it will be a tough match again against an organised side with dangerous players and we will be made to work hard if we are to get the three points.”
